Choose the right calculator

The right starting value matters more than the size of the numbers. Choose a percentage tool for a part of a total, a change tool for a comparison, or a discount or tip tool for a purchase or shared bill.

• Percentage Calculator — Find a percentage of a known amount, such as 15% of an $80 price.

• Percentage Change Calculator — Compare an original value with a new value. The tool divides by the absolute original value; a zero starting value is undefined.

• Discount Calculator — Calculate the reduced price and money saved from one discount percentage.

• Tip Calculator — Add a chosen gratuity to the entered bill and divide the total evenly among the group.

Before you calculate

For shopping comparisons, use the same basis for tax, shipping and other charges. The discount tool applies one percentage, not stacked offers. Enter the bill amount on which you want a tip calculated; the tool does not decide whether tax belongs in that base.

A practical example

A 15% discount on $80 saves $12 and gives a sale price of $68. Increasing $68 by 15% gives $78.20, not $80, because the percentage is applied to a new base. Use Percentage Change to compare the two prices directly.
